What does Faith with Deeds really mean?
I want to talk about Faith with DEEDs. We all know faith without deeds is dead. Let's looks at it in two aspects.
One.
In James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
25-25 reads on;
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your[a] works, and I will show you my faith by my[b] works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[c] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[d] And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
James says in 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James is very straight forward and clear.
Two, now let's look at Joshua;
Joshua1:1-11 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.’”
Joshua a young man in the service of Moses had to face the reality that Moses was gone and it was up to him to take the Israelites to the promised land.
One thing that is very evident from the above scripture is that Joshua was scared.
The LORD GOD tells him twice to be strong and very courageous. We should note that the second time he was given the above statement the LORD told him, "haven't I commanded you? Be strong and courageous, Do not be terrified; Do not be discouraged for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go."
At that instance we are told that Joshua ORDERED the officers of the people to go tell the Israelites they would cross the Jordan in three days.
Joshua looked up to Moses and now Moses was gone.
At no one point had he seen himself as the man who would take the chosen to the promised land. That is why He was so scared. But GOD spoke a word of encouragement, but He still was hesistant until GOD commanded him to be strong and of good courage.
GOD has commanded each and every one of His children to believe in His word(JESUS) for in this name we have power.
Joshua put His faith to test, He PUT out an ORDER. In three days they would cross the JORDAN. We aren't told that he told men to begin building canoes, no! We are told he told them to get their supplies ready?
This man after heeding to the commands of YHWH didn't care about the HOW! He only cared about obedience.
We who are called by His name have been given the same gift of faith, to bring down every mountain in our lives.
We have however refused to believe and have resulted to being as scared as Joshua was in the beginning, but I am here with a message from the almighty and everlasting King of Kings.
He Commands you to be STRONG and COURAGEOUS!
David knew goliath was going down, he did not know HOW. All he knew is that no one came against JEHOVAH and lived, He believed the WORD and the WORD came alive and we know the rest.
The Israelites always sought GOD before they went to battle and am sure forty days earlier they had been assured of victory but when they saw the size of goliath, they feared.
David was not aware if the Israelites had sought GOD but He knew the strength and might of His GOD and that is what he chose to stand by.
Bartimeus believed in the Living word JESUS and no amount of being told to shut up or blindness was going to stop his miracle that dh
The days ahead of us will continue to be difficult and the question is, will you have the strength and courage to cross the Jordan, to bring down goliath and to believe in JESUS as bartimeus did? Will you help assist other people in need if you are in a position?
Shalom.
